10 of the world’s best attractions are officially in the UK

Must read

The UK is full of stuff to see and do that you won’t find anywhere else on the planet. And we at Time Out should know: not only do we boast the ultimate lowdown on the country’s best activities but we’ve got an entirely separate list of the best things to do that are new this year.

Britain’s rep as a globally-renowned travel destination is in the spotlight once again, as today (June 25) TripAdvisor has unveiled its list of the world’s best ‘travel experiences’ – and a whopping 11 UK experiences made the cut.

TripAdvisor’s list is part of the company’s 2024 Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best awards. The ranking crowns the world’s best experiences and attractions based on the quality and quantity of reviews on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period.

So, which UK experiences featured in TripAdvisor’s 2024 ranking? British attractions triumphed in a range of categories, so let’s break it down.

In the overall ‘top experiences’ list, Small-Group Tour: Historical Pub Walking Tour of London ranked 19th in the world. That same tour also came fourth in the ‘cultural and historic experiences’ list, alongside Beatles Magical Mystery Tour in Liverpool, in eighth.

In the ‘family friendly’ category, Glasgow’s Guided Celtic Park Stadium Tour was named the single best attraction in the world for a family day out. In the same list, the Wizard Walk of York came ninth.

The Chocolatarium Chocolate Tour Experience in Edinburgh came fourth in the ‘food and drink’ list, while the ‘amusements and water parks’ ranking featured Alton Towers Resort (eighth), the Milky Way Adventure Park in Clovelly, Devon (12th) and Drayton Manor Theme Park (20th).

The final category featuring UK attractions was ‘water sports’, which had London’s High-Speed Thames River Speedboat in 10th and Llangollen’s Whitewater Rafting Adventure in 20th.

Not a bad showing, eh? You can find TripAdvisor’s full Best of the Best Travellers’ Choice Awards rankings on the official website here.
