Stockport-based power network operator, Electricity North West, has begun work on a £700,000 project to improve the electricity grid in the borough.
The business’ engineers are laying ducts across a 2 km stretch of the network as part of a proactive upgrade for homes and businesses in Heaton Norris to reinforce the power grid in the area.
Matthew James, who is overseeing the work in Stockport for Electricity North West, said:
“As the region’s power network operator, we always want to provide the best service for our customers.
“Each year, we review the power network and identify sections that need upgrading before regular power cuts could happen.
“The work taking place in Heaton Norris will see 2 km of new underground electricity cables installed and our significant investment will ensure a safe and reliable supply of electricity is maintained to thousands of properties.”
Work started on Manchester Road and has progressed to Meadows Road. Teams will also work on Highbury Road, Wellington Road North before finishing on Crossley Road.
Once the cable duct installation has finished, engineers will return to pull the cable into place and connect it to the power network.
Work is expected to last until mid-September and Electricity North West will provide updates as the project progresses.
