Salisbury has been ranked as one of the best small UK cities for a short break.
According to Which? Travel, who asked 4,000 holidaymakers to rank their experiences across the UK, the small medieval town offers a historic escape in the southern English county of Wiltshire.
With housing averaging at about £98 per night, the town offers an affordable trip away for a short weekend or bank holiday.
It’s also nine miles south of the iconic prehistoric stone circle at Stonehenge, which stands on the grassland of Salisbury Plain.
Other small cities in the UK ranked highly on the best places to go for a short break include Wells, Durham, St Andrews, and more.
One of England’s most famous cathedrals is also located in Salisbury.
Dating from the 13th century, the historic building has a 123-meter-long spire, a working 14th-century clock and an original copy of the Magna Carta (the Great Charter), a key document from 1215 A.D.
Around town, the centuries-old city centre also offers an open market every Tuesday and Thursday. Notable buildings from medieval times include the parish church of St Thomas of Canterbury and the Plume of Feathers Inn which offers comforting pub food and drink.
