Across Spain and its archipelagos, there are countless stunning beaches to choose from, but two beaches in particular have been highlighted by a local real estate agent for their surprising similarities to the Caribbean. “Known for its crystal-clear waters, golden sands, and rugged cliffs, Majorca offers a diverse range of photogenic landscapes,” explained Christian Wolf, CEO of CW Real Estate Ibiza.
However, head towards the southern coast of the island and you will find two beaches which Christian says could trick people into thinking they are thousands of miles away in the Caribbean.
“The serene beaches of Cala Mondragó and Es Trenc are famed for their turquoise waters and white sands, often compared to the Caribbean,” he explained.
The secluded Cala Mondragó beach is located 8km south of Cala d’Or, on the south-eastern coast of Majorca. The surrounding area of Cala Mondrago was declared a Natural Park in 1992 which has protected it from major commercial development.
Though the bay is rather small, spanning just 75 metres in length and 60 metres deep, it remains a popular hotspot – particularly during the summer season. It’s the water here that is the main draw, with stunning light blue waves lapping onto a sandy shoreline.
The beach offers a perfect spot for swimming and the gentle slope into the sea means it’s great for the whole family.
Rock formations line the waters from which you may see people jumping from into the waters below. The beach also offers the opportunity to take a stroll to two the larger bay of S’Aramador beach to the east and the tiny pretty beach of Calo des Burgit to the west.
Es Trenc, close to Campos on the southern coast of Majorca, is another naturally acclaimed area, part of the Natural Area of Special Interest Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos.
The beach offers incredible rolling white sand dunes and similar tranquil waters to Cala Mondragó.
Local experts from abcMallorca say Es Trenc is one of the best-known beaches on the island of Majorca. “Es Trenc, which translates as ‘ravine,’ is a beach for nature lovers, who will appreciate the sense of remoteness, wild beauty, and heat,” they commented.
The beach is popular with both tourists and locals, as such can be busy during the summer months. Chairs and umbrella rentals are available, but you can also bring your own towel or blanket and set up a patch if all have been reserved.
“The water is truly spectacular here, and a major draw for visitors,” added abcMallorca. “Shallow, calm, with occasional waves from the wind, it has a turquoise clear blue colour that is more typical of a Caribbean island.”
