The UK’s seaside is stunning and diverse, but according to a study, some stand out as the best holiday destinations in the country.
In a ranking by Go Outdoors, Margate was named one of the top 10 holiday spots in the UK, earning an impressive seventh place.
The study considered factors such as accommodation, activities, local transport, weather, and popularity, which were combined to create an overall “Holiday Score” out of 10, with Margate achieving 8.80.
The seaside town also ranked fourth among the best UK holiday spots for couples, following the Isle of Wight, London, and Bath.
This destination is also well-known for being a hotspot for celebrity sightings, with huge names like Pedro Pascal, Lily Allen, Sam Mendes, Olivia Colman, and some EastEnders cast members spotted there.
The beloved amusement park Dreamland has undergone a major renovation, preserving the charm of a traditional English seaside funfair many include in their holiday itineraries.
It now features vintage rides, music events, and the country’s oldest wooden roller coaster, The Scenic Railway.
Dreamland is also home to a multitude of different festivals and shows, such as The Margate Reggae Festival on June 22 and Sam Ryder’s performance on June 27.
During their stay, visitors can also explore the Margate Museum, the Crab Museum, the enchanting Shell Grotto, and the Margate Caves, which were originally opened as Victorian seaside attractions in 1863 under the fictional name The Vortigern Caves.
Located on Margate seafront, Turner Contemporary offers a huge schedule of vibrant temporary exhibitions, events, and educational opportunities. Currently, the gallery is featuring the first institutional exhibition in Europe dedicated to the trailblazing artist Ed Clark.
And for those seeking to bask in the sunshine, Margate Main Sands is a beloved coastal stretch cherished by vacationers since the 18th century, which even during high tide, has plenty of shoreline for crafting sandcastles.
Earlier this year, Peter’s Fish Factory in Margate earned high praise from KentLive readers as one of the top spots in Kent for foodies seeking some good quality fish and chips.
The town also boasts acclaimed dining venues such as Angela’s and Bottega Caruso, alongside newer establishments like Sargasso and Fort Road Hotel.
If you’re planning a quick getaway to Margate, consider staying at No. 42 Margate, a boutique hotel that opened in the summer of 2023.
This marks the third property in the GuestHouse collection, joining the ranks of No. 1 in York and No. 15 in Bath.
