CCTV captures moment paedophile teacher smirks at teen in luxury shop

CCTV captured the moment paedophile teacher Rebecca Joynes smirked after buying her teenage victim a lavish £345 Gucci belt, before taking him back to her flat.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, groomed the boy, Boy A, with a shopping trip to the Trafford Centre in Greater Manchester before taking him back to her apartment and having sex with him when he was 15. She then fell pregnant with another teenage pupil.

Joynes met the two boys through her job as a teacher at a Greater Manchester school. The boys – and the school – cannot be named for legal reasons.

Joynes, of Pensby Road, the Wirral, was convicted of four counts of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust. Today, July 4, sobbing Joynes was jailed for six-and-a-half years.

CCTV shows her buying the victim a £345 Gucci belt at the Trafford Centre, before they go back to her flat. Manchester Police has since released footage from officers who arrested Joynes at her home, with a visibly stunned look – and her arms crossed.

The first video shows Joynes and Boy A at the till of Selfridges in the Trafford Centre. The boy is holding the Gucci belt, while Joynes, who then had brunette hair looked at him smirking, with her arms folded.

In the second video, Joynes and Boy A can be seen walking together towards the rear gate of her apartment block in Salford. He appears to be carrying a shopping bag and a rucksack, while Joynes holds a black handbag.

She opens it up with a fob, and the teenager follows her in. The third video shows officers attending her flat – with police knocking on her door.

They asked her: “We are looking for Rebecca [Joynes], are we alright to come in for a sec?”

“Yeah, of course you can,” Joynes replied.

Moments later she was arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a child and cautioned.

Joynes said: “Are you serious? How’s it gone so far since…”. The arresting officer explained that the necessity for the arrest was to protect the vulnerable victim and to protect the investigation.

Joynes is then shown to be sat in the back of a police van with her arms folded. Sentencing her, Judge Kate Cornell said: “From the outside it might be easy to fall into misconception these two boys were not victims. It might be asked what 15-year-old wouldn’t want to have sex with their teacher. ‘Surely they were up for it, there is no crime’.

“There is no doubt this is a crime. They were vulnerable to advances from an older attractive woman. 15-year-old boys are no less susceptible to advances than 15-year-old girls.”
