Kate is regal in a purple dress for the Wimbledon final

Must read

The Princess of Wales made a rare public appearance this afternoon for the Wimbledon men’s singles final.

Kate chose a regal purple Safiyaa dress for the occasion, which featured a ruched bodice and softly flared skirt, and received a standing ovation as she took her seat in the royal box to watch Carlos Alcaraz take on Novak Djokovic for the coveted trophy. She was joined by her nine-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte, who wore a sweet polka-dot dress, and her sister, Pippa Middleton, in pink florals.

Kate’s elegant dress, which featured a slightly modified neckline from the original design, was styled with a nude box bag and gold jewellery, with her hair styled in a relaxed side-parting. Purple is a colour closely associated with Wimbledon, with the familiar purple and green logo now more than 100 years old.

As a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club – a position she has held since 2016 – the royal is a regular at Wimbledon, often appearing multiple times throughout the tournament, and occasionally accompanied by other members of her family.

This is only Kate’s second public appearance of the year, with her first being at the Trooping of the Colour parade last month. The royal has been keeping a low profile while she undergoes preventative chemotherapy, having announced her cancer diagnosis in a moving video message earlier this year.

In June, Kate offered an update on her progress. In an official statement, she said: “My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.”
