What is Amazon Prime Day?
Originally held as a one-day event way back in 2015, Amazon has since extended the sale to span an entire 48 hours. The sale, which discounts everything from Amazon’s own tech to home appliances, mattresses, TVs, beauty and more, is held exclusively for Amazon’s Prime members, hence the name.
You must have membership to take advantage of all the deals on offer, but don’t worry if you haven’t gotten around to it yet – we’ve got a way to get Prime membership for free.
When is Amazon Prime Day in 2024?
It’s the question on every bargain hunters’ lips right now. Aside from a blip over lockdown, Amazon always holds its flagship sale in July.
The company started and runs from July 16 and 17, wrapping up at midnight on the last day.
How to take part in Amazon Prime Day
As mentioned, Prime membership is the deal-breaker to joining in the Amazon Prime Day sales.
If you ask us, Prime membership is well worth the £8.99 monthly fee (or £95 a year if you’d rather pay annually). There’s express delivery, freebies on Deliveroo, access to great movies, TV and music, plus gaming, books, magazines and so much more – all for the equivalent of 29p a day.
Students get a sweeter deal at £4.49 per month or £47.49 per year, so if you live with one, get them to sign up and enjoy cheaper membership across the household.
Not sure about the cost? Understandable, given the current financial climate. That’s why we’ve written this guide showing how to get Prime membership for free. Sign up before Amazon Prime Day and membership still counts, even if you’re on the free trial.
What kind of deals can you expect?
At this point, it would be easier to list what isn’t on offer. Unlike Amazon’s recent Spring Sale and last year’s October event, this sale is exclusively for Prime members, which means the discounts are much more enticing.
Amazon saves its best offers for its flagship sale, with RRPs rolling back across everything from garden equipment, home entertainment, large white goods, mattresses, luxury fragrances, booze, and heaps more. Alongside sale-long discounts, there are Deals of the Day and Flash Sales, during which sensationally low prices are only offered for a limited period.
Some of the best deals are on Amazon’s line of in-house tech. We’re talking about Kindles, Fires, Ring doorbells and Echos, all with new reduced price tags that make adding to basket a no-brainer.
