Society stylist Caroline Holden has dissected Meghan Markle’s latest looks and explains why she needs a stylist after wearing ‘ill-fitting and baggy clothes’ for years.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Mrs. Holden, who used to dress Queen Camilla in her role working with designer Paddy Campbell and now styles high society names, says Meghan makes one big faux pas by allowing the clothes to do the talking rather than her figure.

“Meghan tends to allow her clothes to do the talking and not her figure, there’s not even a touch of sparkle,” says Mrs. Holden.

“She should dress to her body size and shape and show off her style rather than allowing the outfits to dominate her.

“Most of the items she wears are extremely ill-fitting and baggy, and she could benefit from the use of a good stylist.”

Reports surfaced recently that Meghan, 42, sometimes works with celebrity stylist Jamie Mizrahi but often likes to dress herself.

In 2015, Meghan Markle sat down with Yahoo Style’s Joe Zee and Kristin Cavallari to talk about her go-to fashion tips to enhance her personal style.

When Meghan was asked how she would describe her style, she said: “For me, it’s still that California girl, relaxed, I like to look polished and put together but there’s always going to be an effortless quality to it just being from LA.

“Feminine and sexy – completely. And Rachel [her character in Suits], I love her clothes, but in my off time, I’m not going to wear pencil skirts because I wear one five days a week for work!”

She was then asked if she had “one go-to rule – this thing for every woman who’s watching should do if they want to dial up their personal style”.

Meghan replied: “I think the most important thing you can do is tailor – no matter what you have in your closet.”

However, despite revealing that tailoring was her best fashion tip, it appears Meghan didn’t follow her own rules for her Givenchy wedding dress when she married Prince Harry in 2018.

“Your wedding dress is meant to help you shine and be the star of the show, but Meghan opted for a baggy simplistic number which drowned her out,” said Mrs. Holden.

“Rumours were that she [Meghan] had lost weight between the initial fitting and the big day which left no time to alter the gown, but I feel this is the look she wanted.

“The dress needed to be tighter on the waist and tapered in more under the bust to create a better silhouette.”

Mrs. Holden points to Meghan’s ill-fitting and baggy style as a trend rather than a one-off.

On Sunday, the Duchess of Sussex, 42, was photographed as she left trendy Italian restaurant Tre Lune in Los Angeles.

She was wearing a casual outfit worth a staggering £61,795 – which included expensive jewellery, and a handbag named after the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Meghan sported her £245 white ‘Mika’ shirt from Los Angeles brand Anine Bing with a £150 pair of La Ligne ‘Molly’ jeans and £820 lambskin ballerina flats from Chanel.

However, the majority of Meghan’s bill was made up of her jewellery, which included Princess Diana’s £17,800 Cartier Gold Tank Française watch, and her £5,800 Cartier Love Yellow Gold Bracelet.

“Her oversized Annie Bing shirt is engulfing her shoulders and creating a bulky gathered sleeve that looks far from comfortable when out for a bite to eat,” said Mrs. Holden.

“It’s drowning her but I’m loving the mum-fit jeans that draw in on the waist. But a gold or beige belt would have finished the look and complimented the gold jewellery.”

However, it’s not just Meghan’s wedding dress or last weekend’s outfit choice that have seen the Duchess of Sussex sport ill-fitting and baggy designs.

Mrs. Holden concludes: “I remember when she wore a Canton Chinese porcelain print dress by Oscar de la Renta to one of Harry’s cousin’s weddings a few years ago and it looked ridiculous. It made her look like a serving platter, not a dainty side plate.”

“She also wore a berry red trouser suit in New York in 2022 which looked as if she had borrowed a Santa suit – it was colossal on her.

“There are so many more examples that you can choose from. I think she likes the baggy look, but it just doesn’t work for her. Meghan needs a good stylist!”
