Arsenal transfer news: Ajax see bid ‘rejected’ for England international

Must read

Arsenal reportedly reject an approach from Ajax for one of their wantaway England internationals.

Arsenal have reportedly rejected another attempt from an admirer of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, this time from Ajax.

Although Ramsdale spent his first two years at the Emirates Stadium as the undisputed number one, that quickly changed upon the arrival of David Raya.

When returning from the September break, Ramsdale was dropped to the substitutes’ bench by Mikel Arteta and would make just 11 appearances in all competitions during 2024-25.

While Ramsdale retained his place in the England squad for Euro 2024, he is under no illusions that his situation must change in order to remain in the Three Lions squad.

Reports have persistently suggested that the 26-year-old is interested in securing a transfer away from Arsenal, whether that be on a permanent or temporary basis.

However, with Ramsdale possessing two years left on his contract, and his club holding a 12-month option, he has effectively been left in limbo.

Ajax fail with approach

According to journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, Ramsdale has been placed on the shortlist of Dutch giants Ajax.

Arsenal were allegedly presented with the opportunity to loan Ramsdale to the Eredivisie side, it unclear whether an option to buy would be included.

Nevertheless, officials at the North Londoners were quick to reject the approach as it did not come close to meeting their conditions for a sale.

The report adds that Arsenal are open to a permanent exit for the right price with Ajax said to be optimistic that a deal could still materialise later in the transfer window.

Previously, it has been claimed that are looking to recoup a bare minimum of £25m for Ramsdale, partly due to a replacement preferably needing to be homegrown to help meet squad registration rules.

Arsenal to price themselves out again?

Although Arsenal were successful when haggling hard to generate their desired fee for Emile Smith Rowe, who has since joined Fulham, they may need to soften their stance with other players.

On Monday, Marseille allegedly ended their interest in Eddie Nketiah due to Arsenal’s demands and have moved to sign an alternative.

While Arsenal naturally want to raise as much income as possible, there are less than three weeks left in the transfer window and the increasing possibility of unhappy players being kept at the club.
