In a world where corporate sponsorship adorns kits across all sporting arenas, isn’t it refreshing to see how charity and sport can combine.

Commercial gain and business advertising have been shoved to one side by a local football club — and it’s thanks to the kindness of an anonymous sponsor that the MS Society and Action Mental Health will benefit from the added exposure of a significant donation.

Vision Athletic will also benefit from the move. The cross-community football club plays in the Down Area League and the donation has supplied two teams with new kit.

Grassroots clubs rely on sponsorship deals to survive. Charities rely on exposure.

It’s an idea that could catch on if more of those with a passion for their clubs, and with the finances to contribute, could follow the example.

Local clubs need the support of their communities and by giving a little back to them, they can only forge stronger links. It’s a great deal all round.
