University is just one of many routes into employment
Thousands of students across the UK will see weeks of nervous anticipation come to a halt today as they collect their A Level results. Hopefully, their hard work will have paid off and they’ll get the grades they want.
But you don’t necessarily need a degree to get a high-paid job, and university is just one of many routes into employment. Other ways into a career include apprenticeships, or other initiatives where you’re paid as you train. Alternatively, you could dive into a working life that could see you quickly progress, and therefore earn more money.
Job site Indeed has rounded up 12 jobs that pay up to almost £50,000 a year, with no degree required. The best-paying job on its list is a Risk Manager, with a national average salary of £49,128 per year.

Indeed also says a Project Manager can expect to make around £45,625 per year, while a Hazardous Waste Manager is paid £41,747 on average. While you won’t necessarily need a university education to get one of these roles, you will need experience in your chosen sector.

For example, Indeed says that many project managers start off as assistant project managers or project management officers before progressing into this role, and will have specialist knowledge for the industry they wish to work in. You’ll also need strong communication skills to be able to liaise with project staff and stakeholders effectively.
Similarly, there are several apprenticeships that focus on risk management, although some individuals choose to start in an administrative role before working their way up to a risk assessment position. In both instances, applicants have A-levels (preferably in business-related subjects) or equivalent qualifications.
