Retail outlets across the borough are facing daily shoplifting attacks from individuals returning each day to target their store.
Shopping areas across Hornchurch, Upminster and Rainham seem to be the most troubled hotspots currently with Rainham residents in particular tired of dealing with an increase in crime and anti social behaviour.
Hornchurch shop workers have spoken openly about the daily battle with thieves who target their stores and how they have been working as a group to inform each other about who they may have spotted that day that is known to them.
Now, Upminster and Rainham stores are also reporting similar situations with brazen shoplifters grabbing goods and walking out of the store in broad daylight with no fear of reprisal.
Residents living in Rainham have called for an increase in police presence for some time now as they often feel left behind compared to the rest of the borough.
GLA Member for Havering and Redbridge Keith Prince and the Hornchurch and Upminster MP Julia Lopez, recently met with retail workers in Hornchurch to talk about the ongoing problems they face. Staff they met spoke openly about the daily challenges they face from thieves and how it is the same faces targeting their shops each day.
In Rainham, Councillor Sue Ospreay has been calling out the anti social behaviour that has impacted the area. Councillor Ospreay gathered parents to stand on the streets during school finishing time following the speight of phone robberies near the Harris Academy, in a bid to stop local children from being robbed.
The blight of shoplifting across the borough is making a significant impact on stores across Hornchurch, Upminster and Rainham and shopkeepers are tired of seeing the same faces target their stores each day to steal.
Both Keith Prince AM and Julia Lopez MP are organising meetings to address these issues now and find a way forward to help shopkeepers go forward and reduce the number of thieves hitting their stores each day.
