Twin sisters Scarlett and Eliza Humphrey finished sixth and seventh respectively in the SM11 women’s 200m individual medley, with Eliza finishing with a personal best. Here’s what they had to say, speaking to Channel 4:

First, Scarlett Humphrey, on competing against sister Eliza: “I
enjoyed it, it was good fun. To line up next to each other was quite nice.
Having raced already means the nerves are less – the first time was quite
nerve-wracking in front of the crowd.”

On coping with nerves, she added: “I’m
getting used to it now and trying to see it as just another race to keep the
pressure off. It took a while to get used to, it’s such a big place in the
village with so many people, but I got used to it.

“We worked out a routine and
a pattern and I’m really enjoying the experience. My racing will improve the
more I get used to the village and the environment.”

Eliza Humphrey said: “It
was nice, it felt good. We had some things to work on from the heats and it
obviously worked, I got under three minutes which is something I’ve been aiming
to do for a while.

“Missing
out on Manchester (World Championships) last year was gutting as I was watching
everyone else race. I worked really hard on the build-up to trials and to race
here is a dream come true, it’s really nice to be back on the world stage
racing world-class athletes.”

On competing with her sister Scarlett: “We
were in the lanes next door to each other, which was really cool. You want to
push yourself in training to beat each other when the races come.

“It’s special
as we know we are supportive of each other and if we have questions, we find
the answers for each other.”
