The best new season shoe trends, courtesy of the autumn winter 2024 runways

Must read

If you’ve been paying attention the past couple of seasons and taking note specifically of the shoe trends, you’ll be happy with what’s cool in footwear for autumn 2024 because a lot has stayed the same.

For instance, loafers are still the AW It shoe. And slouchy boots are absolutely still happening, except they’ve gotten slightly more extreme and sophisticated with a new paper-bag silhouette. Square toes are still everywhere, as are ballet flats – though rather than the summer’s viral mesh iterations, it’s all about woven designs now. And for anyone who loves to add a little edge, biker boots are the style for you.

To learn more about each of these trends, and shop styles you don’t already have in your wardrobe, keep scrolling. We’ve got you covered for all your autumn winter 2024 trend needs.

Paper-Bag Boots

These were absolutely everywhere on the autumn/winter 2024 runways. Think of this style as a new take on the slouchy silhouette but with an even roomier (and dare I say, more sophisticated and statement-making?) shaft. They come in all kinds of materials, from leather to chainmail, and some even have drawstrings for a sporty touch. I’m ready to lace up – are you?

Loafers

Loafers really are a timeless shoe, and they’ve had a major resurgence over the past few years. But this season, they were huuuuge on the runway. As in, they will not be ignored! The new idea for autumn 2024 specifically, was designs with fun appliqués. I’m talking tassels, bows, buckles, and even platform options, as was seen at Victoria Beckham.

Square Toes

From heels to boots and flats, square toes are still very much in the picture. (Sorry to everyone who prefers a nice triangle point.) And, seeing as the flat-edged look is still fashion’s footwear preference, it wouldn’t hurt to shop some of the styles below.

Biker Boots

If you’re looking for something edgy, this is your new go-to. From eye-catching red croc options at Loewe to Hermès’ more is more approach to zippers and buckle details, these are combat boots’ cool older sister with more bells and whistles. And, yes, the biker aesthetic is never not en vogue, but this time, it’s really taking the spotlight.
