Premier Sports pundit accuses Dave King of ‘point-scoring’ and brands his Rangers comments ‘inappropriate’

Must read

Dave King’s recent public statements regarding Rangers were ‘inappropriate’ and a form of ‘point-scoring’ to get the fans onside.

That’s according to Premier Sports pundit Marvin Bartley, who was speaking ahead of Rangers’ cup clash with Dundee at Ibrox on Saturday.

King – who is the majority shareholder at Rangers – recently threw his hat into the ring for the vacant chairman role at Ibrox after John Bennett stood down due to health reasons.

But he wasn’t just making everyone aware of his interest in returning to Rangers. He also took time to criticise the current Rangers board for sleepwalking into a crisis as Celtic continue to dominate the Scottish football scene.

However, King’s public outcry hasn’t gone down well with Bartley, who believes it was unnecessary and should be something that is dealt with behind closed doors.

Marvin Bartley criticises Dave King’s approach

Bartley said live on Premier Sports: “I don’t think it’s right even if the club is in crisis for that to be hung out in public. I think if you care about a football club then you do things privately. If you think things can be improved, you do it privately.

“For me, it’s almost point scoring (for the fans) doing it that way. If you do it in public, you’re putting pressure on the people in here already.

“There’s massive pressure on this football club. We all know they need to win and what’s happened with the stadium. I didn’t like it (King’s public statements) and didn’t think it was appropriate.

“If it’s true or not, we don’t know, we’re none the wiser to that. Doing it in public, for me, wasn’t the right thing to do.”

What King said about Rangers board

King did not hold back in an interview with The Rangers Review during the week, saying: “When John Bennett took over he tried to turns things around – but had no human or financial resources to support him.

“It is amazing that the same people who got us into this trouble want to continue control by placing, as a professional Chairman, their own puppet – who will have no knowledge of the Club or financial interest in its future.

“We are sleepwalking Celtic towards title 55, 56 and 57 instead of trying to stop them. This board will go down as an infamy in the Club’s history.

“I estimate that the Club needs a minimum of £50million to achieve our short to medium term objectives but that could never be raised under the present board structure.

“The funds we need must come from a far wider and wealthier base and from parties that will be willing to invest more (over time) to take the Club forward and to become a modern age football club.”
