Woman narrowly avoids travel disaster after receiving ‘spam’ email from airline

A woman on the verge of dismissing a seemingly “spam” airline email has narrowly avoided travel chaos.

The Reddit user shared her experience on r/CasualUK, explaining how she came close to disaster after almost deleting an airline’s late-night message.

It read: “Late night email from airline, I nearly deleted it as spam and they are telling me my flights on Tuesday are to a completely different airport and city.”

The Reddit user delved deeper into her brush with calamity, mentioning this was not the first time something like this had happened, all the while questioning why there was “nothing to indicate” the essential nature of the email.

She continued in her post: “I nearly ignored it because everyone sends so many spam advert emails, I nearly missed they moved my flight to a different airport! I would have been waiting a long time to be collected at the wrong place. Why do they do it?”

She continued: “Nothing to indicate it’s any different to the 10 other emails I have had trying to upsell me, but a fairly major change with not even ‘important information’ in the title!

“I have had similar from people like Amazon where the order gets cancelled and just thought it’s the rubbish confirmations, but being stuck in a foreign country random airport is fairly significant!”

The public has responded to her story, with suggestions she could potentially claim compensation for the inconvenience.

One disgruntled traveller took to social media stating: “As it’s within 14 days of departure you may be able to get compensation. EasyJet changed our return to Manchester 7pm to Liverpool at 1.30am but 30 days before the flight so we’re screwed.”

Meanwhile, other passengers added their own air travel nightmares about sudden switches from one airport to another.

Frustrations ran high as one user expressed their ordeal, writing: “They refunded my expenses eventually but refused to offer any support getting to/from London at the time,” and added with evident exasperation: “Luckily I had the cash to hand but it’s nice to know if I hadn’t their plan was ‘tough luck pooro’.”

In yet another alarming account, a passenger shared: “This happened to me last year. Ended up at Heathrow instead of Gatwick on a much earlier flight with 4 days notice before departure. Had to bring my work laptop in the car with me as I couldn’t get the time off at such short notice. Very stressful when I was going to be leaving for a month.”
