EA Sports FC 25 tops UK chart in strong month for new releases | VGC

EA Sports FC 25 was the best-selling game in the UK in September, which included the release of a handful of high-profile titles.

EA‘s football game comfortably topped the monthly chart, despite a 4.6% decline compared to the launch sales for EA Sports FC 24.

That’s according to GSD data published by GamesIndustry.biz, which covers physical game sales from major markets and digital sales from most leading publishers, excluding Nintendo and 505 Games.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which debuted at No.2 on the chart, is already the third best-selling new game released in 2024, trailing only EA Sports FC 25 and February’s Helldivers 2.

Developer Saber Interactive has said it plans to explore the potential for Space Marine 2 story DLC, and a full sequel, after the game’s early success.

Ubisoft’s 2018 racing game The Crew 2 charted at No.3 in the UK last month after being discounted to under £1.

After its first full month of sales, Star Wars Outlaws is now tracking slightly behind the launch of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which was also developed Ubisoft Massive and released in December 2023.

Ubisoft has said it’s working on a series of updates designed to get the game into better shape in time for the holiday season, after “initial sales proved softer than expected” following its release in August.

PS5 exclusive Astro Bot debuted at No.4 in the UK last month, while NBA 2K25 entered at No.8, with sales of the basketball game tracking 14% behind last year’s series entry.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom charted at No.10, a feat achieved based on one week of physical sales alone given its release towards the end of the month and the fact that Nintendo doesn’t share digital data.

Almost 3.9 million console and PC titles were sold last month, which was up 8% compared to September 2023.

PS5 was comfortably the top-selling console again last month, driven by sales of the All-Digital edition, which had its second best month to date behind December 2023.

Xbox Series X/S came in ahead of Switch, and Nintendo’s console has now dropped to No.3 for the year. During the first three quarters of 2024, console sales were down 32% compared to 2023.
