British tourist on Spanish island mugged twice in minutes

A 55-year-old British man was targeted in two separate muggings just minutes apart after leaving a bar in Palma, Mallorca.

The tourist, who has remained anonymous, was withdrawing cash from a machine close to the popular La Bodeguita Del Medio cocktail bar when a lone thief approached and stole his iPhone, worth another £800.

As the man reeled from the shock of the mugging, another two men approached and targeted the tourist in a second mugging, snatching his diamond Rolex President Day-Date watch from his wrist.

The Brit valued his watch at roughly £150,000, although Spanish authorities later priced the stolen Rolex at just over £100,000.

Senegalese migrant Mbengue Alla, 31, has appeared in court accused of stealing the victim’s phone and was handed a three-month suspended sentence for the theft.

Amine Benserai, 34, and Hicham Ziroki, 33, both Alergian, were also apprehended by police and stood trial in a Palma court accused of the violent watch robbery which saw the victim thrown to the floor.

Both men were found guilty and have been sentenced to two years in prison.

Another man, Mbaye Modou Anna, to who the two men sold the Rolex for just £5,000, received a six-month suspended sentence for receiving stolen goods.

Details of the back-to-back muggings have only emerged in full following the trial and news of the incident comes just days after two British tourists were victims of a horrific mugging in the famous Costa Brava resort of Lloret de Mar.

A masked mugger ambushed the pair demanding cash and valuables and one of the tourists was stabbed in the resulting scuffle after refusing to hand over her belongings.

The woman was reported to have been “bleeding heavily” before being transported to a nearby hospital in the coastal town of Blanes.

A suspect was swiftly arrested close to the scene on Monday and a phone belonging to one of the tourists was recovered.
