The incredible £400 UK train journey named ‘world’s best’ takes you back in time

Must read

The UK’s most glamorous train journey, oozing with opulence and style, is the ultimate day out for people wanting an unforgettable day trip.

Crowned as the best train journey in the world, The British Pullman, A Belmond Train, has been fully restored to immerse passengers in the most fabulous parts of the roaring 1920’s and 1930’s.

The 11 authentic carriages are unique from each other, engulfed in antique upholstery, art deco-style features and romantic lighting.

The Pullman has four different styles of carriages, with the capacity for up to 26 passengers. Each space accommodates for either one, two, three or four people, with the latter located in private compartments. For those seeking a little more exclusivity, the compartments are available for two as well.

The British Pullman, A Bellmond Train was named the best train journey in the world in Conde Nast Traveller’s 2024 Reader’s Choice Awards.

All areas of the travel industry are recognised by the awards including hotels, resorts, airlines, airport cruises, cities and more.

The Belmond British Pullman’s season runs from February to December. Embodying true quintessential British style, the train winds through the English countryside and along the glorious coastline.

Departing from London Victoria Station, travellers can head directly out of the city to a variety of destinations such as Kent, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Bath.

For Downton Abbey fans, one unique journey to consider is the trip to Highclere Castle, the magnificent stately home where the show was filmed, meeting with Lady Carnarvon.

Upon every journey, passengers are warmly welcomed onboard by an impeccably dressed train steward. You will then be shown to your seats accompanied by a table decorated with crisp white linen and polished silverware.

Guests can then choose between a variety of decadent meals, including brunch, champagne afternoon tea or a gastronomic dinner.

The dishes are finely crafted, with each menu conceived by the trains chef John Freeman who uses a plethora of the freshest seasonal ingredients.

Prices begin at £400 per passenger on a table for two.

The exclusive train encourages passengers to step aboard in their finery to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

Pullman’s expectations are to maintain an ‘elegant and enjoyable atmosphere’, hinting at leaving your trainers and washed-out jeans at home.

Belmond says, ‘you can never be overdressed aboard our beautiful train’, therefore, if you decide to delve into the luxuries that the train has to offer, it may be worth dusting off your dinner jacket.
