The best places to go shopping in Milan

Must read

Carla Saibene

Founded in 2002, this charming concept store is delightfully styled by Milanese designer Carla Saibene. Her eponymous collection featuring a limited-edition series of clothing for women takes a spin on classic designs, made using premium fabrics, remnants and roll ends. You’ll find blazers, silk shirts, dresses and trench coats for a relaxed, effortlessly chic look with a boho flair. Among Carla’s most iconic pieces are her handmade trousers that are slightly masculine in cut yet designed to accentuate femininity. Alongside clothing, there are shoes and accessories from jewellery to belts that Carla has carefully selected from niche brands from the world over.

Galleria Rossana Orlandi

Marrying art and design, this unconventional, immersive space is part gallery, part showroom, hidden away in a leafy courtyard shaded by strawberry grape vines. Renowned curator Rossana Orlandi scouts emerging talents from Italy and across the globe – many of whom have gone on to establish themselves in the world of design – bringing together a colourful and eclectic selection of pieces. As you wander from room to room, you’ll come across anything and everything, from furnishings to clocks, mirrors, carpets, paintings and homeware items, all carefully arranged in fanciful, eye-catching displays that burst with personality and creativity.

Calzature Belfiore

This small family-run shop in Milan’s residential Wagner district has been crafting men’s shoes since 1953, offering both ready-to-wear models and bespoke creations. Luca and his mother Nadia personally greet customers, many loyal Milanese patrons. Shoes are carefully made by skilled artisans using high grade leather, with each pair stitched and finished by hand – a job said to take about four hours per shoe. You’ll find loafers, brogues, Oxfords, leather boots and even trainers along with belts and bags. The shop also provides a shoe care plan to prolong each pair’s lifespan, with services including resoling, heel refits and polishing.
