Leicester boss Steve Cooper has backed the English coaching pathway but believes coaches still need to prove themselves at a world class level.

The 44-year-old, who guided England Under-17s to the World Cup in 2017, has urged the managers to take their chances to show their worth.

Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as England head coach on Wednesday, the German becoming the Three Lions’ third foreign coach, has sparked debate about the depth and quality of English managers.

“I really believe in British culture, I believe in the
coaching education pathway,” said Cooper, ahead of Leicester’s Premier League trip to Southampton on Saturday.

“The ones I’ve been involved with have been
the FA’s and FAW’s and I think they have been brilliant courses which have evolved
over the course of time.

“I really think they develop coaches and educate
coaches in the right way. Hopefully over the course of time British coaching
will continue to improve and we will be right up there with the world’s best.

“In the meantime any opportunity we are given we have to take and do a good
job. Until we do that on a regular basis maybe we shouldn’t say so much. We
should take the opportunities given to us as do the best job possible.”
