With the festive season upon us, the cheapest Christmas market in Europe has been revealed and you’ve probably never heard of it. Located in western Poland, Wroclaw hosts an intimate Christmas market which has been crowned as one of the best in the country.
Experts from travel money specialist, eurochange research the festive destinations that offer the best value for money to Brits.
The data was collected based on factors such as the local exchange rate, hotel and flight prices, and the cost of food and drink.
Laura Evans-Fisk, head of digital & engagement at eurochange, said: “Our research shows the Christmas Market in Wroclaw, Poland is one of the best European Christmas markets to visit, if you’re looking for the best value for money and a truly authentic experience.
“A three-course meal for two will also only cost £39, so it’s a perfect romantic getaway or trip with friends.”
Wroclaw’s Christmas market is held across four interconnected locations in the city: Rynek Market Square, Plac Solny, Świdnicka Street, and Oławska Street.
Visitors can explore wooden stalls offering handmade crafts and local treats such as Oscypek (a smoked cheese), sausages, Bigos (a traditional Polish stew), and potato pancakes.
Food and drinks are considered affordable, with mulled wine (Grzane Wino) priced at 15 PLN (£3.10) at the market, while nearby restaurants offer it for just 9 PLN (£1.86).
According to the Wroclaw Guide website, the market will feature a “fairytale” forest, where visitors can take photos next to giant wooden mushrooms and trees. One stall will showcase a scene from Pinocchio, featuring Geppetto bringing the puppet to life.
Other attractions include a carousel, a rollercoaster, and a towering Christmas tree, which will be illuminated on December 6.
The market runs from November 29 to January 7.
One of the users wrote on TripAdvisor: “This is the best Christmas market I have visited, it was very impressive.
“There were many different sections, including attractions for kids, food and drink stalls and stalls selling clothing and no queues.
“Everything was really reasonably priced too, especially compared to the UK.”
Direct flights to Wroclaw are available from several UK towns and cities, including London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Bournemouth, Nottingham, and Bristol.
The lowest fares can be found from London Stansted, where Ryanair offers direct flights to Wroclaw, while Wizz Air operates a route from London Luton.
