UK food company tracking its water use and taking water-saving actions, signs up with Water Plus for its efficient business water services – future net zero

Must read

A national food company, which tracks its water use during the year and takes water-saving actions, is working with Water Plus, as its trusted, experienced and long-term partner for business water services, as it looks to grow its operation for its customers

Express Cuisine manufacture and distribute chilled foods and frozen food in the UK.

The business has taps with automatic stops on and carries out water checks each business day, to make the best use of the water used and reduce the chance of additional water being used unnecessarily.

The company also tracks its water use during the year, providing meter readings through MyAccount, a platform provided by national business water retailer Water Plus to help customers easily update information for their water account and bill.

It’s important for businesses to note meter readings regularly, at least once a month – if the water meter is safe to access – and to provide these online to the water retailer, along with keeping an eye out for signs of water leaks at sites.

Noting meter readings, throughout the year – and providing them, reduces bills based on estimates, helps budgeting and forecasting and allows businesses to spot further efficiency opportunities – alongside identifying any water issues early, including unexpected increases in water use – to take action to reduce additional future costs.

Sohel Patel, Managing Director of Halal Kitchen Ltd, which operates and owns Express Cuisine, said: “Water is an absolutely vital part of our operation, so having a reliable and trusted business water partner is a must for us – which is why we’re continuing to be with Water Plus.

“We continually look at how we use water at our business during the year, so we’re working efficiently, as we continue to provide high quality food products for the UK. We also engage with all our employees and highlight the steps to take so that extra water isn’t being used when it’s not needed.

“We’ve established ourselves as a leader in the UK for supplying fresh Halal chilled foods – and continuing to be with business water retailer Water Plus, as a reliable and efficient partner for our water services, provides a strong base as we continue our plans to grow in the future.

“Its MyAccount platform is easy to use and makes it effortless to update our account information and provide our meter readings, which reduces bills based on estimates.”

Halal Kitchen Ltd took out a contract with Water Plus, after being with the water retailer since the opening of the market, in England, in April 2017.

National business water retailer Water Plus works with customers in England and Scotland, providing water retail services including customer service, billing and account management, meter reading, water-saving site audits, works with manufacturers and others to improve efficiencies with trade effluent – and provide additional water tracking technology.

Over the past 12 months, as part of its operation, Express Cuisine has used 1,700m3 – that’s 1.7 million litres of water, or 21,250 bath tubs filled with 80 litres of water each.

The business, based in Bolton, Greater Manchester, which was established in 2007, employs more than 50 staff and manufacture and sell Halal sandwiches, wraps, ready meals and frozen food. More information around their Halal product range is available on the Express Cuisine website.

Water Plus is highlighting water efficiency and water pipe messages, to help organisations of all sizes – under their #BeWiseOnWater awareness campaign, including on its online Help area here – and on its business social media channels.

There are carbon emissions linked to all water used at businesses – so reducing water use can cut carbon emissions, helping to reduce future climate impacts and progress towards Net Zero. Where less hot water is used, or moved, at a business, then there are energy savings.
