Flight attendant ‘never wears certain clothes to fly’ after terrifying training

Must read

A trainee flight attendant has issued a stark warning to holidaymakers about what they should avoid wearing on a plane, after being taught something horrifying on her course.

While comfort is often the priority when choosing an outfit for a long-haul flight, with joggers, hoodies, shorts and sandals being popular choices, there are some items that you might want to reconsider wearing.

Spanish TikTok user @‌clauucuerdo shared some fashion advice she learned during her flight attendant course, admitting that she used to wear shorts and sandals on planes but will no longer do so.

“Never go on a plane in shorts,” she advised. “I used to wear shorts and even sandals, but I’m not going to do that anymore. I’m doing a course to become a flight attendant and I learned something today that I didn’t know.”

She explained that if there’s an emergency landing and you have to disembark using one of the inflatable slides, having any skin exposed can lead to severe burns.

She went on: “If there’s an emergency and an evacuation has to be done, inflatable slides come out from doors and some windows of the plane which inflate at the moment and all passengers have to jump off. With the speed at which you’re sliding down, you get burned. I mean, it literally burns your entire leg if you’re not wearing long trousers.

“Obviously we hope that no emergency happens, but just in case, I would wear long trousers, socks and closed shoes.”

Her advice went viral, racking up over 4.1million views, but commenters were quick to note that in the event of a crash, leg burns might be the least of one’s concerns.

One remarked: “If the plane’s going down, the last thing I care about is my leg getting burned.” While another said: “I don’t usually board thinking the plane’s going to crash and I’ll have to evacuate urgently.”
