The historic Royal Arcade – home to an eclectic mix of independent retailers from a gin academy to a vintage fashion shop – was ranked based on its beauty and the variety of businesses it has to browse.
The Times complimented its “intricate tilework” and stained glass above the entrance, comparing the work of architect George Skipper to Gaudí who is famous for his combination of Victorian and art nouveau styles.
It also praised how the spot is just a stone’s throw away from Norwich Market as well as renowned food spots such as the Assembly House.
Opened in 1899, the venue was built on the site of a centuries-old coaching inn and underwent a six-year restoration programme in 1991 that cost nearly £3 million.

Later this month, the arcade will open for a late-night Christmas shopping event with various special offers.
