Incredible capital city overshadowed by more popular one 3 hours away

Must read

Europe’s best kept secret is an incredible capital city with hardly any tourists that is constantly overshadowed by its more popular neighbour.

Warsaw, the vibrant capital of Poland, is a major cultural, political and economic hub but despite this it is often in the shadow of Krakow.

If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of endless tourists then look no further than Poland’s impressive capital.

According to statistics from Warsaw City Hall, it recorded around nine million tourists in 2022 – significantly less than other European cities.

But there is plenty to love about this “dynamic” city. In fact, it was voted the overall best European destination of 2023 by European Destinations.

Warsaw is both the capital and largest city of Poland, found in the east central part of the country, and sits on the banks of the River Vistula.

The Old Town of Warsaw is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular places to visit. Although 85% of the old town was destroyed during World War II the area was carefully reconstructed after the war, original materials were used where possible.

As you stroll through its cobblestone streets framed with colourful buildings you will be taken aback by its vibrant atmosphere.

Warsaw has quite possibly the best bar scene in Eastern Europe and where better to spend a well earned pit stop than uncovering some of the city’s hidden bars from cocktail bars to swanky wine bars.

While Warsaw boasts many museums, your first port of call should be a visit to the Warsaw Uprising Museum.  The museum tells the story of those who fought and died for independent Poland and its free capital.

When vistiting Warsaw the quickest way to get to grips with its culture is sampling its local cuisine. The city in particular and Polida is famous for Pierogi, a type of dumpling that is made in various ways.

As the largest green space in the city Łazienki Park is a must visit for nature lovers and is the perfect spot to laze around in during the summer months.

The parks boasts a beautiful lake here, large gardens, a pitcturesque pond, a café and many different walks to go on. While you are here you may also see peacocks wandering around aswell.
