If you’re struggling to decide where to jet off to for your 2025 holiday, a beautiful Spanish city has been named among the best places to visit.
Travel guide Lonely Planet has unveiled its top destinations for next year and one of them is just a stone’s throw from the UK.
The capital of Majorca, Palma has been highlighted as a must-visit location and it’s not hard to see why.
From its iconic cathedral to its stunning beaches, Palma offers something for every type of traveller.
At the heart of Majorca lies the awe-inspiring Cathedral of Mallorca. Built between the 13th and 17th centuries, this Gothic marvel is truly a sight to behold.
Lonely Planet suggests visiting the cathedral early in the morning to witness the light streaming through Europe’s largest rose window, casting a rainbow of colours across the building’s interior.
From there, you can ascend the roof terraces for a closer look at the glass. Adjacent to the cathedral is the Palau de l’Almudaina, originally an Islamic fort, transformed into a Royal residence in the late 13th century, and now serves as the King of Spain’s luxurious summer home.
If you prefer to explore the labyrinthine streets of Palma, you’re in for a treat. You’ll find mouth-watering local treats like olives and oysters, as well as unique souvenirs that will make you stand out from the crowd when you return home.
One such item is the alpargatas (rope-soled espadrilles), a quintessential piece of Spanish culture. Boutiques also offer handmade jewellery and artwork – in Palma, you’re truly spoilt for choice.
Naturally, a trip to Majorca wouldn’t be complete without lounging on its stunning beaches. Playa de Cala Major, located near the city centre, is a must-visit with its long stretch of golden white sand, sun loungers and the glistening blue sea.
This beach has earned a four-star review on TripAdvisor, but visitors warn it can get crowded, so it’s best to arrive early.
