Major travel disruption following emergency incident

Multiple train lines faced “major disruption” following an emergency incident. Trains running between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton were cancelled this evening (Monday, November 18) while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The Northern Rail warned disruption was expected until 9.30pm as services returned to normal. Passengers were told trains running between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 120 minutes or revised.

Affected routes were the Northern between Ellesmere Port / Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street, and also between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria / Wigan North Western / Blackpool North.

TransPennine Express also saw disruption between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street and between Liverpool Lime Street and Stalybridge / Oxenholme Lake District / Newcastle / Glasgow Central.
