A climate Tech start-up behind a new touch-screen light switch has raised £2.6m in funding in its seed round.

London-based Tewke said the round out-performed its initial target of £1m.

The London-based firm said the funding will allow the to develop their intelligent light switch, Tap, which is designed to help you automatically optimise the efficiency of your home without the need for rewiring.

Having already received the Red Dot Award for Design Concept, Tewke aims to use Tap to tackle the £4billion worth of annual energy wastage in the UK.

Founder of Tewke Piers Daniell said: “Often energy savings are associated with some kind of compromise, but at Tewke we are building a platform that will elevate people’s homes, making them more environmentally friendly, intuitive and secure.”

Tewke claims that Tap is the first touchscreen light switch that doesn’t require a neutral wire or smart lightbulbs to function, making it easy to integrate into any home.

The business says Tap falls within the “goldilocks zone” where the light switches are a convenient height for all members of the family with a good view of the room to understand the home environment.

Tewke more than doubled their seed round target after receiving UK Innovative funding from the UK Net Zero Pre-Commercialisation Support Fund, as well as receiving the Housing Digital Innovation Award.

It aims to use the additional capital to grow its market proposition, expand its software team and develop its neuro-symbolic AI systems to enable further energy optimisation.

Founded in 2020, Tewke develops all of its technologies inhouse, including its electronics and its customer operating system Tewke OS.

The firm hopes to create the backbone of a future smart grid by focusing on how energy is consumed instead of how it is generated.

It is also planning to appear at Las Vegas’ CES 2025 in January to exhibit their Tap product and other technologies.
