Chael Sonnen predicted a potential fight between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou.
Jones who defended his belt at UFC 309 is regarded as one of the best MMA fighters of all time.
Ngannou who left the UFC in 2023 due to a contractual dispute is one of the most powerful fighters in the world.
Chael Sonnen believes Jon Jones would maul Francis Ngannou
Chael Sonnen is regarded as one of the best trash talkers in the UFC’s history. Having shared the Octagon with Jones when the pair clashed Sonnen shared his thoughts. The ‘Bad Guy’ believes it would be an easy matchup for his American counterpart.
Speaking on his podcast Good Guy Bad Guy with Daniel Cormier Chael Sonnen said; “Do you know what Jon would have done to Francis Ngannou in hindsight? Now that we look back, Jon would have picked that big man apart. I mean, I’m just sharing with you, like, that’s a big man’s nightmare. Jon’s not a heavyweight; Jon is fighting at heavyweight. There’s a massive difference.”
Will we ever see Jones vs Ngannou?
Last month Francis Ngannou did say if a fight ever did happen between the pair it would take place in Saudi Arabia. The country which has hosted multiple high magnitude fights could settle one of the highly anticipated matchups in MMA.
Jon Jones is regarded as the Greatest of all Time by Dana White and given the resume of fighters the American has faced it is a title that he deserves. Blessed with incredible wrestling skills and boxing Jones dominated Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. His counterpart Francis Ngannou meanwhile left the UFC as the lineal heavyweight champion; with incredible knockout power, the Cameroon fighter has dominated the UFC before his departure.
However, it does seem unlikely the pair will ever face off much to fans despair. UFC President Dana White will not encourage a cross platform event. Furthermore, given the way Francis Ngannou left the UFC there is limited opportunity for him to return to the organisation.
