The recent £500 donation of shopping – the second one from the same man this year – was given to the food pantry at the Carroll Centre, in Somers Close, Stanmore.
Jessica Giles, a support community worker at the Carroll Centre, which works in partnership with Winchester Basics Bank to support the community, praised the actions of good samaritan Paul.
As did Lucy Burgess, the community champion at Tesco, who put Paul in touch with the food pantry when he asked about good causes to donate to.
Lucy said: “What a fantastic donation from the lovely Paul.”
Paul said he was inspired to help after witnessing hungry children in his community.
He said: “I was inspired to do a £500 charity shop for the Carroll Centre earlier this year as a result of seeing two little girls, around 9-10 years old, following closely behind their mother in Winchester city centre.
“I then heard one little girl call out, ‘Mummy, we are hungry, we haven’t had anything to eat today.’ It was 2.45pm in the afternoon!
“You can always turn on a tap and get a drink but you can’t turn on a tap and get something to eat!
“As the memory of those two little girls continued to haunt me, I decided to do another £500 shop for the Carroll Centre on November 4 in good time for Christmas.”
