Basingstoke and Deane Borough Cllr Arun Mummalaneni visited the site with Cllr Stephen Reid and Cllr Rhydian Vaughan to see the new rapid charging facility at Chineham Shopping Centre.

The facility allows shoppers to park their electric vehicle in one of the eight designated spaces, before plugging it in whilst they go shopping at the centre.

Customers can also receive updates on the charge of their vehicle through an app designed by the EV-charging network, Osprey, explained Steve Forster, head of public acquisitions at the company.

He added that Osprey is keen to roll out more charging points across Basingstoke, as it says the points will ‘provide a fast and convenient re-charging option for long-distance drivers’.

Basingstoke MP Luke Murphy also attended the opening of the site, cutting the ribbon to declare the chargers officially ready for use.

The chargers are powered by renewable energy and are part of Osprey’s network of more than 1,200 charging bays across the UK.

Steve Forster said: “It was a pleasure to attend the opening of Osprey’s new EV Ultra Rapid charging hub in Chineham; it marks a significant step towards more sustainable transportation.

“This facility marks progress in supporting and encouraging electric vehicle adoption and highlights the community’s commitment to a cleaner, eco-friendly future.”
