Morrisons has promised to give customers money off their big shop today to make up for the major IT glitch in the run-up to Christmas.

Thousands of shoppers were caught out by the glitch when trying to do their Christmas shopping at Morrisons or online, with many saying they were unable to use their More card or get discounts.

One frustrated customer said they received an error message when trying to use a promotion at the self-service checkout.

Now Morrisons has promised to give shoppers 10% off at the till, the Sun reports.

The supermarket said in a statement: ‘Now is the time to head to Morrisons for great deals as huge price drops have been introduced for ALL Morrisons customers today and TOMORROW (Christmas Eve).’

‘To overcompensate for systems issues affecting our More Card customers, all Morrisons stores are offering the top 100 More Card discounts to ALL customers – including the 10p veg deal, turkeys, spirits and champagne – and are also giving More Card customers an additional 10% offer their entire shop as an apology.’

However, some local restrictions might apply on the deal which is available until closing time today.

Moira Redhead, a Morrisons customer, was left in limbo over her Christmas shop yesterday.

The 55-year-old, who is disabled and has a weakened immune condition, did not receive her delivery as planned to her Northumberland home.

She said she was first told ‘there’s nothing they can do.’

However, Morrisons said their team contacted Ms Redhead and she received her Christmas shopping in the end yesterday and she has booked her next order for New Year’s Eve.
