A woman has died onboard a cruise ship after trying to jump from the vessel, according to reports.
The tragedy is believed to have happened this weekend as the Princess Cruises vessel, Sky Princess, was en-route back to Florida after sailing round the Caribbean.
Passengers had been aboard the ship for eight days sailing around the Caribbean after it set sail on December 15.
During the cruise, they visited locations such as Cozumel, Mexico, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and toured the Grand Cayman Islands.
But on Saturday, it is understood that a woman tried to leap from the vessel and landed on the deck, according to Cruise Radio.
A spokesperson for Princess Cruises confirmed she died.
They said: “Shipboard personnel immediately provided emergency medical care, but despite their best efforts, she could not be revived.”
Footage circulating on TikTok appears to show the moment that passengers were informed of the fatality.
In the video, travellers are in their cabins as an announcement plays out on overhead speakers.
The travel company has since offered support to anybody affected by the incident and has said that on board counselling services will be on hand.
An investigation into the woman’s death has since been launched.
The ship which has a capacity of 3,600 passengers has been in service since 2019.
Just last week, an American man, 72, was feared to have died after falling overboard from the Ruby Princess cruise ship.
The tragedy is believed to have occurred as the ship made its way on a five day voyage to Mexico.
Officials believe that the man went overboard before the ship docked in San Francisco and the alarm was raised.
