The small town named the prettiest in UK just miles from tourist hotspot

Must read

This pretty UK town is just eight miles from a popular city which Brits love to visit.

Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire has been named as one of the 10 prettiest towns in the UK, and it’s just eight miles away from iconic Bath.

In Bradford on Avon, you can have a similar experience to visiting Bath but with less crowds.

The town is filled with exciting things to do and see, especially in the colder months when it comes alive with cafes, restaurants and cosy spots to stop for a drink.

Take a walk around The Shambles which are filled with independent shops where you can buy unique items.

One must visit place is Iford Manor: The Peto Garden which is a Grade I listed garden with an Italian style.

This romantic and perfectly well-kept garden will make you feel like you have been transported to Italy. One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Beautiful, peaceful gardens with many attractive architectural features.

“It felt like being in Italy on the sunny day we visited. We ate lunch in the first class restaurant. It was a tasty treat, which was an added bonus.”

A great place to stop for lunch is The Bunch of Grapes, says Conde Nast Traveller. You can try a seven-course set menu that might include crab with kimchi rind or ox cheek with broccoli and stilton.

Another thing you should do while in the area is to take a stroll along Bradford-on-Avon Wharf which was once the busiest wharf on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Today, it’s a great place to spot historic canal features – one visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Bradford on Avon is a very really busy little town with lots of quirky shops. Down by the canal and lock is very quiet and peaceful even when plenty of boats are using the lock.”

If you’re hoping to visit Bath too, you can get there by train in 15 minutes from Bradford on Avon or you can drive which takes around 20 minutes.

A weekend is enough time to see both places and will allow for a relaxing break at the start of the new year.
