WORK to upgrade Bonnymuir Green Community Trust’s Bonny Café kitchen facilities has begun following a £2,500 grant from the Scottish Building Society Foundation.
A communal green space, based in the heart of Aberdeen, which provides visitors with a space for educational and social activities, the funding is set to upgrade the café’s current kitchen to meet growing demand for its service.
The grant provided by the Scottish Building Society Foundation will support the Bonny Café’s plans for a kitchen upgrade with the purchase of a commercial dishwasher. Installation of a stainless-steel kitchen, improved ventilation and storage is set to be introduced in the future.
Jen MacDonald, Project Coordinator, Bonnymuir Green Community Trust, said: “The Scottish Building Society Foundation is designed to give back to local communities across Scotland and this is exactly what they are doing.
“The Bonny Café continues to grow in popularity and we need equipment which can meet demand. The support from the Scottish Building Society Foundation will help us achieve this and ensure that Bonny Café, which is powered by volunteers, is able to continue successfully into the future.
“We’re delighted to have begun the upgrade and hope that everyone who visits and volunteers at the Bonny Café will enjoy it too once it is finalised.”
Scottish Building Society Foundation was established by Scottish Building Society in partnership with Foundation Scotland, which is designed to give back to Scottish communities.
Launched in May 2023 to align with the organisation’s 175th anniversary, an incredible £175,000 will be granted to local charities, causes and organisations across Scotland.
The Scottish Building Society Foundation has currently completed two phases of funding for local community initiatives, with the third round of applications set to launch later this month.
The first phase of funding attracted 44 applications from across 11 local authority areas of Scotland, with nine successful applicants chosen to receive individual grants of up to £5,000 to help their cause.
Meanwhile, the second phase of funding attracted 33 applications from across 11 local authority areas of Scotland.
