Albania‘s travel industry is booming, thanks to a new visa-free policy for citizens of 84 countries, including the UAE, Brazil, and the UK. This initiative aims to attract more global tourists to Albania’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities. Situated on Southeastern Europe’s Balkan Peninsula, Albania boasts coastlines along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas and is famed for its castles and archaeological sites. The country saw a jump from 7.5 million international visitors in 2022 to 10.1 million in 2023, fueling nearly 5% economic growth. While Europe remains the largest tourist source, the “East Asia and Pacific” region saw a significant 172% increase in visitors.

According to recent research by the global tourism body, Albania’s tourism sector contributed nearly L565 billion to the GDP last year, a 37% increase from the previous high in 2019. In 2023, Travel & Tourism accounted for one in four lek in the Albanian economy. The GDP was estimated at $4.391.960 billion in 2022, with the economy primarily driven by the service sector (54.1%), followed by agriculture (21.7%) and industry (24.2%).
