Anger in beautiful UK seaside town as parking spaces start selling for £150k

Must read

Three parking bays in the seaside town of Whitstable, Kent have gone on sale for a shocking £150,000.

Residents of the area were not surprised about the hefty price tag attached to these spaces, and complained that the lack of availability sometimes forces them to leave their cars a mile away from their homes.

Locals desperate for a parking space said they often remain on the lookout for a free spot from their windows and rush out to quickly move their car when one becomes available.

Some said they even have to park near the train station at times, despite being a 15-minute walk away from their home.

Parking spaces are in such demand that one small patch of land with three bays is valued at £10,000 more than a four-bed house in Dover, which is 40 minutes away from the area.

Despite the hefty price tag, residents are confident someone will snap the land up quickly as it is situated in a prime location.

Locals are blaming the lack of parking space on tourists, many of whom flock to the seaside town for a day or a weekend.

Holidaymakers are also accused of parking on double yellow lines, risking a fine.

The parking situation is not helped by the fact that Whitstable is also the Airbnb capital of Kent, with more than 500 listed properties to stay at in the town.

The market has become oversaturated in the town, residents complain that people have “more money than sense” to throw at holiday homes and to waste on potential parking fines.

Permits are available to buy but the cost is high, meaning many can’t afford or don’t want to make the investment.
