Madri Excepcional lager took the world by storm after it launched in October 2020, in just four years it was bringing in a whoppy £100m in sales for its parent company Molson Coors.
The Spanish styled lager, whose logo is a man dressed in a traditional chulapo and whose slogan is ‘el alma de Madrid’, meaning the soul of Madrid, has soared through the ranks to become the sixth best selling beer worldwide
However, the company has come under fire over its heavy Spanish marketing as the beer is actually brewed 2000 miles away from Madrid in Tadcaster, Yorkshire, which it claims is for environmental reasons.
But it is not the only brand to be marketing its goods under the assumption that it is from an idyllic holiday destination, in fact new data from NIQ argues that around 80 per cent of ‘world lagers’ in supermarkets are actually brewed in the UK.
Do you know which of these 20 beers are brewed in the UK and which are brewed abroad? Scroll down for the answers.
