Tucked away on the coast of the Caspian sea you’ll find Baku, the capital city of the colourful Azerbaijan. While the medieval city may not be high up on your list for a holiday destinations next summer, it certainly should be.
Hailed as the ‘perfect alternative to a European summer city break’ by Euronews, Baku catches all of the sun from the east, with summery 32C temperatures. Azerbaijan is also known for its lively festival season, and with its varied programme, there is certainly something for everyone.

As Baku is right on the coastline, even when temperatures soar in summer you can cool down by the water. The beachfront, known as Seaside Boulevard, is populated with a Ferris wheel, museums, and even the Crystal Hall arena which once hosted Eurovision.
Azerbaijan has all the luxury that your heart desires, with beach clubs and lavish resorts dotted through the city. Baku offers spa escapes for all budgets, with various wellness resorts that use traditional Azerbaijani oil as part of their treatments.

Vistors to Baku praise the local’s welcoming nature. “Baku, Azerbaijan, a charming city, most of it overlooks the sea,” Ben Iamyaa penned on Trip Advisor.
“I visited this city in 1984 when it was with the Soviet Union. It was previously a small and simple city. When I visited it now, it has changed a lot.
“It has become a developed city. You see huge buildings, a shopping complex, and a luxurious boulevard for many international brands. Walking on the sea is wonderful. You will find restaurants, cafes, and entertainment places for adults and children. You can visit the center, Nizam Street, and get to know the city center.
“Then visit the old city. You will find how the people of Azerbaijan used to live. You will find castles, palaces, and baths. You can count the original Azerbaijani tea there, and also buy many antiques and gifts from the shops spread around. Spend a beautiful day there. I liked the cultured people of Azerbaijan, and some of them speak English, Russian, and Arabic.
“The smiling people welcome everyone. It is a good city for families, friends, and everyone who wants to get to know it.”
