If you’re a Brit itching for a fresh start abroad with your little ones in tow, listen up. There are hot spots that tick all the boxes for family-friendly expat life, and a recent William Russell report has done the legwork to spot them for you.

They’ve crunched numbers on childcare costs, top-notch uni options, parental leave perks, rent levels, and the rest, to crown the ultimate destination for Brit families seeking an overseas haven.

And guess what? That jewel of a place is closer than you’d think is a mere hop away from Blighty by plane.

William Cooper of William Russell said: “Moving abroad with your family can be a stressful process, with many unknown factors at play.

“What we’ve seen from this study is that there is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of which country is best for this move, but some countries do perform significantly better than others overall.”

Portugal has been named the best place in the world to relocate as a family. We thought we would look more into the country itself and what makes it so great.

Childcare generally costs just five percent of the average household income and the cost of monthly essentials came to less than £100. While rent is more affordable than in the UK, prices are rising in Portugal’s major cities such as Lisbon and Porto.

According to Numbeo.com, a family of four’s estimated monthly costs are £1,984.9 (2,361 euros) without rent. Meanwhile, a single person’s estimated monthly costs are £563 (669.7 euros) without rent.

However, when it comes to living in the capital Lisbon, the costs are significantly lower than compared to London. According to Numbeo, the cost of Living in Lisbon is 39.9 percent lower than in London (without rent).

Elsewhere, the cost of Living including rent in Lisbon is still 44.7 percent lower than in the UK capital. Finally, groceries prices in Lisbon are 28.6 percent lower than in London.
