Beautiful pink beach in the UK has a ‘brilliant’ B&B that was once a school

Must read

Scotland is home to many mesmerising beaches and Sandwood Bay is one that’s been named one of the country’s most striking of all.

Situated on the furthest north-west coast of mainland Sutherland, VisitScotland has branded it “reputedly the most beautiful beach in Britain“, partly due to its impressive dusky-pink hues.

Far from the teeming noise of modern life, this oasis offers a unique world of its own.

Its 1.5 miles of unblemished pink sand promises tranquillity, even on the sunniest of days, thanks to its remote location.

While access to it may present some challenges due to the absence of roads, you can park at Blairmore’s gravel car park and take on a scenic, albeit exposed four-mile trail.

This might seem a tedious walk across the moorland, but the breathtaking views will make the distance fly by.

Plus, the sight of the stunning vistas over the North Atlantic from the white sands makes any effort worthwhile, reports the Daily Record.

After a delightful trek to the picturesque Sandwood Bay, with its enchanting pink sands, you’ll certainly be feeling peckish. It’s a given that there are no eateries right on the beachfront.

Yet, not too far off, the charming Old School Restaurant and Rooms beckons as an ideal pit-stop post your Sandwood Bay excursion. True to its moniker, this quaint B&B served as a school from 1879 to 1970.

For those keen on extending their Sandwood sojourn into a mini-break, the Old School offers cosy lodgings complemented by amiable service. The restaurant, open to non-residents as well, boasts a menu brimming with fresh, local fare.

Tripadvisor reviews glow with praise for the Old School Restaurant and Rooms, which boasts a stellar 4.5 out of five rating from 209 reviews.

A recent patron enthused: “Went with my mum for an evening meal, she had fish and chips I had venison stew followed by sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. The meal was absolutely brilliant, the service was perfect.”

They continued: “Would definitely recommend eating here if in the area. Just make sure you book to avoid disappointment.”

Another visitor chimed in: “The room was clean and comfortable and in a pretty setting next to a little burn. The food was good and the old school house itself provided a lovely ambience. We would stay here again.”
