I’ve been in this industry for years, and I think I can speak for everyone when it comes to owning that ‘I’ve made it item’ – and mine has always been a Bella Freud jumper. I probably have Alexa Chung and her countless amount owned.
Yes, it might seem totally cliché and a bit bonkers, but owning, in my eyes such an iconic piece of fashion has always been a dream of mine – so imagine my utter delight when I heard the news that the legend herself was dropping a collection with my high street faves, Marks and Spencers.
Launching this morning at 8am, it was only a few days ago that a colleague of mine alerted me of the news the collection was coming, after seeing a window decal in our local M&S store.
The stunning 27-piece collection marries both tradition with fashion, just like M&S and Bella Freud embody.
Think preppy, uniform-inspired pieces, Bella’s love for graphic packaging, and a mix of tailoring, slogan knits, and matching accessories.
This capsule collection really is, a dream for outfit enthusiasts. Featuring a modern palette of easy neutrals, soft pastels, and vibrant pops of colour – myself included.
Key pieces include wool blend flared pinstripe trousers, a matching pinstripe jacket, chunky merino wool blend jumpers, and luxurious 100% cashmere roll necks. And let’s not forget the everyday essentials like the 100% silk tie neck shirt.
Over the years, of course I’ve checked eBay and Vinted religiously, hoping someone will tire of their Bella Freud sweater. Sure, I’ve also purchased pieces with ‘inspired’ slogans and kitsch designs – but nothing will compare to the original.
The 27-piece collection lands on M&S.com and in 30 selected stores across the UK today, October 17, with prices ranging from £15 for the Divine Feminine and Nature Bags to £139 for the Divine Feminine Cashmere Jumper.
The knitwear pieces are available in sizes XS-XL, and the wider collection comes in sizes 6-24, including Short, Regular, and Long leg lengths – woo.
Naturally to celebrate the occasion, I’ve taken it upon myself to pick out the items that will be going into my basket as fast as my internet will allow, in the hope that my dreams of owning such an iconic piece of knitwear finally come true.
These are just a few things I’m desperate for, but what about you? Oh and if you’re my mum reading this… mind your business.
