Bomb squad called to ‘suspicious package’ near shopping centre

The bomb squad were called after a “suspicious package” was found. At 2.30pm on Wednesday, November 20 police were called to reports of a suspicious package at an address on Crown Gate, Runcorn.

The explosive ordnance (EOD) attended the scene and it was later established the item was not suspicious. There was a large police presence near Runcorn Shopping City and a cordon was put in place.

A 50-year-old man from Widnes has since been arrested on suspicion of causing a bomb hoax (placing an article with intent) and wasting police time. The man remains in custody at this time.
