Boost for Carmarthenshire sports clubs with new funding

Must read

The upgrades, funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), come as the new sporting season begins.

Cwmaman United is one of the clubs benefiting from the project, with plans for LED lights, solar panel updates for the changing rooms, a mini pitch, and planting 100 trees.

Tumble RFC has also received funding to appoint a professional team of experts to oversee the construction of a new community facility.

Clwb Rygbi Brynaman will see their changing room facilities refurbished, with new lockers, benches, shower facilities, lighting, and a ventilation system.

Penybanc Welfare Association’s project will install new LED floodlights, enhancing the club and increasing the number of young people using the facility.

Pontyberem Rugby Football Club’s new floodlights will enhance the club as a sports facility and increase the number of evening matches that can take place.

Llannon Community Council’s project will assist in funding a feasibility study for improvements at Cross Hands Park.

The study will consider new changing rooms, shower facilities, a natural turf playing pitch, improved drainage of existing pitches, public toilets, and a new community space.

One of the largest improvements will be the development of a new 3G sports pitch at Llandovery RFC.

This is a community-led initiative which will be accessible to sports clubs and schools.

Additional improvements include LED floodlighting, a spectator viewing area, and new paths surrounding the pitch.

Councillor Hazel Evans, Carmarthenshire County Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, leisure, culture, and tourism, said: “Investment into our county’s sports clubs is a great way to encourage the community to lead healthier and more active lives by participating in club sports.

“This funding means the council can carry out necessary work and improve the experience of users and spectators at Carmarthenshire’s sporting venues.”

Actif communities officers are available to assist sports clubs and volunteers in Carmarthenshire, helping them to thrive and strengthen.

Their support includes help with grants and finance, marketing and promotion, recruiting new members, volunteers, and general management.

Sports Wales also distribute funding to community clubs, volunteers, and athletes across the county.

Their specialist grants team can provide information and support for a range of funding needs such as setting up a new team, upgrading facilities, and support for individual athletes.

The other clubs benefiting from the UKSPF include Carmarthen Town Football Club, Felinfoel RFC, Glynhir Golf Club, Clwb Rygbi Pontiets Ltd, Parc Stephens Community Association, and Canolfan Carwyn.

Felinfoel RFC’s project involves the installation of LED bulbs and new electrical wiring on the floodlights on the King George V playing fields.
