Boxing Day shoppers queue at 6am for Liverpool LUSH sale

The Church Street cosmetics store had the biggest queue of the morning as shoppers braved the cold to bag some bargains

Shoppers queued around the block for the Boxing Day sale at Liverpool’s city centre LUSH store this morning. The cosmetics store opens its doors at 9:30am today – but shoppers were already queuing down Church Street and on to Church Alley by 9.15am.

Bargain hunters bundled up in their coats on a chilly Boxing Day morning in hopes of bagging a bargain at the city store. Signs in the window of the shop advertised a ‘freshness sale’ with 50% off some products as stores across Liverpool prepare to greet a steady stream of shoppers throughout the course of the day.

While the Boxing Day sales used to be one of the busiest days for Liverpool’s high streets, the scene in the city today was distinctly quieter, with many shoppers opting to browse discounts online. The LUSH Boxing Day sale has been known to attract queues in recent years with some shoppers telling our reporter they had been stood outside since 6am.

The Lush sale went live on its website in the early hours of the morning with many people waking up to grab the biggest discounts. You can currently shop the sale here.

The rest of the main high street was quiet this morning with TK Maxx opting to open at the later time of 10am. Some stores won’t open at all on Boxing Day, with many retailers in recent years choosing to close on December 26 to give their staff a well-earned break and run most of their sales online.

Some supermarkets are also shut on Boxing Day this year to give their staff members some much-deserved time off to spend with their loved ones over the festive period. So if you need to head out on Boxing Day to stock up on supplies you’re best to take note of the opening times below. Bear in mind, however, that many store hours vary depending on location so you’re always best to double-check with your local.

All Asda petrol stations have a pay at pump service so will be open throughout the Christmas period for customers to fill up. Usual opening times vary across Asda’s estate so you can check individual store opening times by using their store locator here. Stores will be open on Boxing Day (Thursday, December 26) from 9am until 6pm.

Aldi will be closed on Boxing Day, also known as St Stephen’s Day. However it will re-open between 8am and 8pm on Friday, December 27. All Sainsbury’s stores will be open Boxing Day from 9am to 6pm and convenience stores from 9am to 9pm. However opening hours can vary so Sainsbury’s advise customers to check their store locator for the latest details in their area which you can do here.

While all Tesco stores and petrol filling stations were closed on Christmas Day, on Boxing Day the Tesco Extras and Superstores will be open 9am-6pm. Meanwhile the majority of Express stores will be open from 9am-7pm but some larger Express stores will close at 6pm.
