Breathtaking beach that’s one of world’s best and worth the terrifying hike

Must read

This idyllic beach is situated in Kefalonia, west of mainland Greece. Fteri Beach is one of the world’s most impressive seashores and what’s more, it’s completely unspoiled by tourism. You won’t find any amenities like sun loungers or umbrellas, and it’s usually not at all crowded due to only being accessible through a hike or by boat.

Surrounded by white cliffs and untouched beauty, this is the ideal getaway for those after something away from the busy tourist-heavy beaches. Think Leonardo Dicaprio in the film The Beach.

If you’re planning on hiking to the beach it’s important to wear the right footwear and take lots of water. Previous visitors estimate that it takes 40 minutes to an hour depending on how much of a seasoned hiker you are, but once you arrive at the pristine beach you won’t be disappointed.

FamilyOfFive on TripAdvisor says: “The terrain is rocky and not signposted, so you need good fitness and ideally good shoes!”

While Ilias A says: “The level of stamina required is moderate I would say. Obviously, being under the sun with high temperatures makes it a bit more difficult, but please take your time and bring water with you.”

For those after a bit of a fitness challenge before a much-needed reward, this is the place for you, but if you fancy a less strenuous journey there are plenty of boat options available.

Taxi boats to the beach shouldn’t set you back much more than 15 euros, or if you want to opt for a more luxurious experience you can hire your own boat and skipper.

With its clear turquoise waters and completely natural surroundings, this is also the perfect day trip for those after a serene environment in the heart of nature. Temperatures during the summer average at a very warm 30c, so take plenty of sun cream and an umbrella if you have one to avoid succumbing to the heat.

So, if you’re planning on heading to the Greek islands this summer,  take a picnic and set up for the day at Fteri, one of the world’s most beautiful and secluded beaches.
