Brit vows ‘never return to UK’ after moving to Spain – but there’s a big reason

Must read

Many Brits dream of moving abroad.

The allure of a life under sunnier skies and the promise of a better quality of living has many dreaming of packing their bags for sandy shores. With the UK’s dreary weather and soaring cost of living, the idea of relocating seems ever more tempting.

One woman, who took the plunge and moved to Spain, has openly admitted it’s the wisest choice she’s ever made. Geo, who shares her expat experiences on TikTok under the handle @geoinspain, stated she would never consider returning to live in the UK after her six-year stint in Spain.

She boasts that Spain “has so much more to offer”, and insists that the quality of life is far superior there. Upon her visits back to Britain, Geo experiences what she describes as a “reverse culture shock”.

For her, the benefits of Spanish living extend beyond the favourable climate, as it’s the overall lifestyle that captivates her.

In a revealing video, Geo expressed: “I feel like I’m such a healthier person in Spain through the food that I eat, and the amount of time I spend outdoors. Also, it’s so normal to socialise during the week, and not just wait for the weekends, which is something that I love about living here.”

She continued to share her appreciation for the Spanish way of life, adding “Whether it’s going for a drink, or going for a coffee, or going for breakfast – there’s always things to do during the week and at the weekends. Also, in the mornings, people who you don’t even know say good morning to you, which I just think is such a nice way to start the day.”

Geo contrasts this with her experience in England, where she feels such interactions are less common. She also admits that the cost of living would likely prevent her from affording life in England again.

She said: “I know prices have increased everywhere, but it’s so expensive now, and having this on your doorstep for a lot cheaper of a price is just a no-brainer. There’s always something to do here, and you really don’t have to spend a lot of money.

“We usually spend our weekends having a walk around, seeing friends, going for a drink or having some Tapas.”

After being shared, the video quickly went viral, amassing over 80,000 likes, with viewers eager to jump into the comments section to pose their queries about the realities of emigrating.

One person said: “I would love to be able to get the hell out of the UK. Just have no idea where to start.”

Meanwhile, another individual expressed the impact of moving countries, adding: “I’m Spanish and moving to the UK has affected me so much.”

A third also replied: “I came to Spain with a job, and it’s the best experience I’ve ever had. I’m still here now 18 years on. I love the atmosphere, it’s relaxed, spending a lot of time outside and, yes, eating much better here.”
