British tourists have been warned the mercury will plummet on a popular Spanish island this week. Just this weekend Majorca saw 30C heat but by the end of this week, it could see temperatures as low as 22C with a high chance of rain.
That’s according to the spokeswoman for the State Meteorological Agency in the Balearics, MarÃa Jose Guerrero. She has forecast a cold front will grip the islands pushing temperatures down by between 4C and 5C with isolated outbreaks of rain.
Usually the Balearics sees an average temperature of about 25C at this time of year, but cooler weather is forecast for this week, with Tuesday set to mark the plunge in the mercury.
Ms Guerrero forecast that maximum temperatures are not expected to exceed 24C in the north of the island, which will be welcome news for some holidaymakers.Â
But for others who were hoping for a scorcher, they may be disappointed.
But looking ahead to Wednesday, the weather forecast indicates a steady incline in temperatures with maximum heat being between 25C and 30C, which means they will once again be higher than usual for this time of year.
They will rise again on Thursday before falling on Friday, with a chance that unsettled weather will continue into the weekend.
Spring began early on the Spanish island with maximum temperatures reaching as high as 22C in mid-February.
But by late February, the island was hit by snow, thunderstorms and hail leading to a yellow weather warning.
But forecaster Jim Dale at British Weather Services said tourists could soon be seeing hotter than normal temperatures in Spain.
He told Express.co.uk: “I see quite the opposite, hot to very hot this summer, especially in the southern and central regions.
“Tourists will get a taste of it in the coming days.”
